Alfred University to host panel discussion on careers in healthcare profession

Alfred University will host a panel discussion on 10月 24 which will spotlight career opportunities in healthcare, one of the largest and fastest-growing industries in the United States. Three Alfred University alumni—each accomplished professionals with experience in healthcare—will participate in the Feinstein-Friedman Panel on 职业生涯 in 健康care.


事件, which will be offered in-person and virtually, is co-sponsored by Alfred University alumni and classmates Dr. F. Ronald Feinstein ’67 and Lester Friedman ’67, who will both serve as panelists.

The panel discussion is an open forum for those interested in learning about the diverse careers available in healthcare, a field that has opportunities for students from a variety of academic backgrounds. 事件 is open to Alfred University students, faculty, and staff. Students from high schools in the region are also being invited.

The three panelists include:

  • F. Ronald Feinstein, MD ’67, Clinical Professor of Surgery in the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California; Adjunct Professor in the 健康care Systems Engineering Program at Loyola Marymount University, 洛杉矶. Feinstein earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Alfred University and is a former member of Alfred University’s Board of Trustees, serving from 1992-98.
  • Lester Friedman ’67, professor emeritus of media and society, and former chair of the Media and Society program at Hobart and William Smith 大学. He also taught health humanities and bioethics at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. Friedman earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Alfred University and also has master’s and doctoral degrees in English from Syracuse University.
  • Leslie 金刚砂 ’08, principal data scientist for the Knowledge Science 研究 Team at Bristol Myers Squibb, a global pharmaceutical company. 金刚砂, who has been a data scientist at Bristol Myers Squibb for more than three years, graduated from Alfred University with a bachelor's degree in biology and went on to earn a doctoral degree in genome science from the University of Washington in 2014. She served more than five years as a research scientist in the University of Washington’s Department of Biostatistics.

事件 begins with dinner from 5:30-6 p.m. in the Knight Club, Powell Campus Center, followed by the panel discussion, which will run from 6-7:30 p.m. in Seidlin Hall, Room 114. Immediately following the panel discussion there will be a mixer with dessert and beverages in the Knight Club, at which time students will have a chance to meet with the panelists and network with them.

弗雷德·法利, associate professor of management, and Geoff Lippa, assistant professor of biology, organized the event. Farley teaches courses in the College of Business’ 健康care Planning and Management program; Lippa serves as pre-health advisor for students planning to pursue advanced degrees in the health field.
